Zach Weeks - About Me

A Slightly Longer "About Me":

I have been fairly obsessed with the concept of recorded music since I first touched a record player as a toddler. Professionally, I've been pursuing sound engineering since 2006 and have built a reputation as a well-rounded audio engineer. While my inital professional focus was on mastering records, much of my work now includes production and mixing for large-scale recording projects. I have roots in the realm of indie, alternative rock, and punk music, but I am always eager to expand my skillset by taking on more diverse projects.

As of 2018, I work full-time out of God City Studio in Salem, Massachusetts as Staff Engineer alongside studio owner Kurt Ballou. If you would like to make a record with me at God City, check out my rates page and please send me an email.

The most important lesson I've learned as both a musician and engineer is maintaining the balance between deep creativity and technical intuition. I strive to keep my work unique by thinking outside of the box, focusing on interpersonal relationships with my clients to best understand their goals, and avoiding a strict "by the book" approach to the recording studio . This ethos is rooted in my desire to bring the artist's vision to life while also trying to push their project beyond its perceived limits.

Outside of strictly mastering records, I have proficiency working on large-format analog and digital recording consoles, several digital audio workstations, analog tape machines and other formats outside of the DAW realm. Before shifting my focus to strictly studio work, I spent several years touring globally with various artists as a front-of-house live sound engineer. Additionally, I attended Berklee College of Music from 2010 to 2014, where I pursued a degree in Music Production & Engineering with a minor in Acoustics & Electronics.

In my fairly limited free time, I repair, restore, service, and build audio electronics including pro audio equipment, tube and solid-state amplifiers, effects pedals, and more. I believe that an extensive technical understanding of how equipment works (both inside and out) helps an audio engineer excel in their craft. I also make my own brand of audio electronics under the name Epicurean Shoppe, which is very much a work-in-progress and labor of love.

If you are located outside of Massachusetts or you have a specific studio you would like to record at elsewhere in the country, I am always willing to travel to engineer your project. I offer attended sessions for mixing at God City but I do not offer attended sessions for mastering at this time.

If you would like a copy of my professional resume and/or a list of my recording & engineering credits, please do not hesitate to ask.
